Nicole LaBrecque selected for Maine Principal’s Award
Senior Nicole LaBrecque has been selected by Boothbay Region High School Principal Dan Welch as the recipient of the 2015 Maine Principal's Award for BRHS.
Since 1984 when the award was established, each member of the Maine Principal's Association names one award recipient each year from the senior class who they feel represents qualities of good citizenship and academic excellence. Each of these students is invited to an honors luncheon where they receive a plaque and pin. Each student's name is placed into a lottery, and five names are drawn at random. Those five students are awarded $1,000 scholarships.
“I was kind of surprised, and really honored,” LaBrecque said about winning. “I'm sorry I won't be able to go to the luncheon as I'll be in Quebec (on a class trip) with Mrs. Gorey.”
“This year I selected Nicole for her outstanding academic performance, her leadership skills, and her overall contribution to our school's climate,” Welch said. “Nicole is an excellent student who is highly respected by her peers and by our faculty. She is very deserving of this award.”
LaBrecque is attending Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut in the fall. There she will be enrolling in the continuing education doctorate program to eventually earn her Ph.D. in physical therapy.
LaBrecque will be honored at the annual BRHS awards night in May.
