New recycling building opens
The Boothbay Region Refuse Disposal District's new recycling building at the Waste Management facility on Country Club Road, Boothbay, opened for business on December 26.
The 120-foot by 96-foot building, which was completed in about three months of work by Morton Buildings, is nearly twice the size of the former building, which was built in 1989.
According to facility Manager Steve Lewis, the bottleneck of traffic at the facility's entrance will hopefully be eased now that all recycling will be done on the east side of building, rather than the west side. Utility poles and storage containers near the old building have been removed, allowing for easier maneuvering for visiting vehicles and the facility's work vehicles.
The new building cost approximately $437,000. It is being financed with a 20-year bank loan of $400,000 (at 4.55 percent) and the rest will be paid for by the District.
