Meet ‘Artiste’ the snowy owl
There's a new face you might notice in the harbor. Perched outside Studio 53 on Townsend Avenue is a snowy owl standing on a tree. Her name is “Artiste” and she is a joint creation by Bob and June Rose of the Boothbay Region Art Foundation.
“She was originally going to be a scarecrow for the Botanical Gardens,” June Rose said. “Bob was putting together pot buoys and he thought it looked more like an owl, so we went with that idea. I dress her up, and right now she's wearing her winter finery.”
Artiste was a success at the Gardens, where instead of being with the other scarecrows, she lived in the children's garden by the pond.
“They told us we could have it back, and she was in front of our house but I wanted to share her with the town,” June Rose said. “So she's be there until maybe sometime in January. She's the watcher of the holiday season. No, I don't plan to dress her up in pajamas for Early Bird.”
