A look at what’s ahead
With the new year brings plenty of news from the Boothbay region. Budget talks, TIFs and capital improvements discussions will kick off the Boothbay selectmen’s meeting at 7 p.m. on January 8 at the Boothbay Town Office.
The agenda includes discussions of expanding commuter rail into the Midcoast, the reduction of town employee benefits, and what to do with the Cross River Center since the Boothbay Region Land Trust submitted a proposal for the 19 acre property.

While the selectmen meetings cover a large portion of public discourse, keep your eyes peeled for other important events this month, such as the controversial cell tower that could be built on Ocean Point Road, or whether or not the Friends of Windjammer Days will create a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit to host the flagship festival this summer. There will also be the second Market Boothbay meeting, when area businesses owners will get together to come up with new ways to promote the region.
