Longtime Boothbay region educators retire
The Boothbay Region schools are losing two longtime educators. Kindergarten teacher Jane Williams and AOS 98 Curriculum Coordinator Mary Patrick will retire at the end of this school year.
Williams began her career at Boothbay Region Elementary School in 1981 when she was hired as an assistant in the reading lab. In fall of 1982, she began teaching Kindergarten. Except during a three-year sabbatical, 30 years of 5-6-year-olds started their education in her classroom.
Patrick began her career at Boothbay Region High School as an English teacher in 1977. In the 1983-1984 school year she was appointed assistant principal; but, she also continued teaching English until she became the high school's full-time assistant principal in 1993-1994, as well as athletic director. In 2001, she became the curriculum coordinator.
On behalf of the committee, Community School District Committee Chairman Larry Colcord acknowledged their commitment to education and wished them well.
“Between the two of them they have over 60 years of experience. Their work is much appreciated and we are sure it will continue through the many students they have had,” Colcord said at a May 8 meeting.
