Locals profiled in ‘Route 27 South’ project
For those of you who don't know, Peter Southwick's online photojournalism project, "Route 27 South, Stories from the Boothbay Peninsula," is now available for viewing at www.route27south.com.
Southwick, who has been visiting the Boothbay region for 35 years, mostly during the summer months, has done stories on several familiar faces in the region. The list includes, in no particular order, Ramona Gaudette, Clive Farrin, Nancy and Peter Gilchrist, Lee Stoddard, I.J. Pinkham, June Elderkin, Stephanie Hawke, Sarah Foulger, Bet Finocchiaro, Cathy Sherrill and Danny Beal.
All of the stories, except June Elderin's, are in black and white. The stories include many black and white photographs, interviews with each of the people, and recordings done on location where these people work.
A visual journalist, Southwick was an Associated Press staff photographer in Boston for 10 years, and director of photography at The Boston Globe for nine. For the last 12 years he has taught visual journalism as an associate professor at Boston University.
He and his wife, Jean Rosenberg, live in Arlington, Massachusetts, during the winter months.
Southwick has interviewed other local people (Nick Upham and Arthur Webster) this spring and summer and will be adding their stories to the website.
