Lewis runs for water district trustee
Jon Lewis of Boothbay is running for an open seat on the Boothbay Region Water District Board of Trustees. Lewis moved to Boothbay 15 years ago to work for the Department of Marine Resources. He was previously employed by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game.
With a background in science and engineering, Lewis said his profession brings problem solving and communication to the table, which he said will hopefully manifest as a trustee of the water district.
Lewis said he first got interested in the water district when they established Knickerbocker Lake as a secondary water source. “That was right after a pretty extended dry period, and the lake level dropped about 18 inches, and people became somewhat incensed,” Lewis said. “We have a limited water resource here.”
Lewis said he doesn't think there are major problems with the local water district, but he wants to be involved in the decision making process.
“I don't come with answers. I come with an open mind of how I can serve, as opposed to 'I'm coming in to change things.'” Lewis said.
The election for municipal officers will take place on May 6, at the Boothbay Town Office between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m, followed by the annual town meeting at 7:30 p.m.
