Despite a fine comeback bid in the third quarter, the Boothbay Region Lady Seahawk varsity basketball team fell to Old Orchard Beach, 59-46, in a preliminary-round game at Old Orchard February 11.

Boothbay, seeded 13th, trailed at the half, 27-14. A strong third quarter by the visitors where they outscored the Seagulls, 21-13, brought hope for an upset to Coach Tanner Grover's squad. However, fourth-ranked Old Orchard (14-5) made critical free throws in the fourth quarter and went on to advance to the quarterfinal round at Augusta on February 18.

Morgan Crocker, the leading scorer in the Mountain Valley Conference, led Boothbay with 23 points, followed by freshman Cagney O'Brien with 11 and Sara Durgan with nine.

Old Orchard was led by Abigail Dubois with 19 points, while Kelsey Custeau and Mackenzie Rague each scored 16.

The Lady Seahawks, with Brooke Alley being the team's only senior, finish their season at 7-12.
