Hundreds turn out for Rotary auction
Parking was at a premium at the Rotary auction on Saturday, Aug. 1, but the selection of items for sale certainly wasn’t.
Despite the hundreds of people who came to the Boothbay Common on Saturday for the 58th annual event, there was still a whole lot of stuff left over when the event closed down during the afternoon hours. But the club did well in sales, nonetheless, as auction chairman Tom Churchill reports that the auction, flea market, silent auction, tool tent, children’s tent and boutique saw “lots of activity.” Club president Hamilton Meserve said the gross sales totaled $49,776.
There were over one dozen boats for sale and the household furniture lot extended out of the auction tent and into the open, where shoppers could make an offer on the less pricey items. There were over 5,000 books for sale and the boutique in the Common’s gazebo was bursting with nice items. The silent auction tent offered dozens of gift certificates and deals offered by local businesses, the children’s tent was filled with “old-but-still-fun” toys, stuffed animals, games and more, and the tool tent was a very popular destination, as mowers, landscaping equipment and power equipment were scooped up early.
The Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club is not only thankful for the beautiful weather on Saturday but also for the support of residents, visitors and its event helpers.
