Hospital auxiliary honors volunteers at annual luncheon

The St. Andrews Hospital Auxiliary’s annual honorees and awards luncheon is as much a staple of Boothbay Harbor as its volunteers’ tireless devotion to fundraising for local healthcare.
On June 5 at Fishermen’s Wharf, the Auxiliary recognized 11 special honorees for their service to the community and awarded sixteen volunteers for donating between 100 and 5,000 hours of service in the last year.
Grace Callahan, Thelma Chenoweth, Erla Kelley, Audrey Kelly, Ellen Memory, Mary Merrill, Peggy Pinkham, Lina Post, Holly Smith, Maxine Tourtillotte and Barbara Williams were this year’s special honorees.
Auxiliary President Miriam Wade conferred the title of Honorary Member on Penny Thumith for “her unflagging work and continuing dedication to the Auxiliary.” Thumith donated 5,000 volunteer hours to the St. Andrews Hospital Auxiliary in the last year.
Other volunteers recognized were Susan Duckworth, Pieternella Harris, Barbara McGlauflin and Marie Oates (100 hours), Jane Gardner and Sheila Gaspar (200 hours), Maren Fischer and Melanie Groneng (300 hours), Sally Giantris (400 hours), Susan Gelarden and Miriam Wade (500 hours), Louise Greene (600 hours), Brenda Donovan (1,500), Liz Furber (2,000 hours), and Audrey Kelly (3,500 hours).
Lincoln County Healthcare CEO Jim Donovan and Miles and St. Andrews Home Health and Hospice Nurse Susan Papineau were the featured speakers. Donovan thanked the volunteers for their 12,471 hours of volunteer service in the last year. Papineau spoke about her work at the Wound Care Clinic, a skill she learned through an Auxiliary scholarship.
