Hope Haitian Choir in Boothbay region
Mon, 07/27/2015 - 11:45am
Enthusiasm, energy, and a message of Hope — a group of 18 young people arrived from Haiti on July 24 to share their music in English, French and Creole.
These children and teens are living with families in the Boothbay region for a week while they intensely rehearse in preparation for a 24-concert tour from Maine to Pennsylvania.
Barb House of Boothbay directs the choir and has made several trips to Haiti to audition, select, and work with the children, primarily using original music. This is the fourth consecutive year that a Haitian children’s choir has come to Boothbay, with the majority of the members being new to the choir each year.
The purpose of this effort is to afford these young people an opportunity to develop their potential so that they can make a positive impact on the world in which they live. It also allows them the joy of sharing their unique Christian hope in the midst of their difficult situations.
The choir, as well, is a part of the nonprofit corporation, Hope Haitian Ministries, which raises money for projects in Haiti. A school/church was built in Lamarre, Haiti, partially funded by last year’s choir tour.
Local concerts before the choir leaves the area are as follows:
All are welcome to be encouraged by the singing and dancing and faith testimonies of this talented and spirited children’s choir.
