Historical society’s annual meeting May 19
The public is invited to join the Boothbay Region Historical Society at its annual meeting on Tuesday, May 19 at 4 p.m. at the society's museum at 72 Oak St. in Boothbay Harbor. A brief business meeting will kick off the meeting; it will include a review of the past year's activities and the election of trustees and officers.
Accepting invitations for additional three year terms on the board are Judy Eastwood, Lorraine Hodgdon, Carolyn Shubert and Kay Wilder. In January, Jan Reit joined the board to fill an unexpired term and Kathy Tibbetts has been nominated to fill an open one year term. Returning to the board to continue their terms are Jim Botti, Susan Leach, Susan Lloyd, Wally Reed, Leigh Reinecke and Ann Sutter.
Nominated for officers' positions are Jan Reit as president; Barbara Wilson, vice president; Sarah Giles, treasurer; and Judy Eastwood, secretary.
Following the business meeting, society volunteer Ken Hanson will give a presentation and slide show on the history of Sawyer's Island and will explain how the island has evolved since the first deed was issued in 1746. Ken has been working on this project since 1988, which includes information about the island land, the residents and their houses, schools, how wages were earned and life in general.
Light refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the meeting, which is free and open to the public. As seating is limited, reservations are strongly suggested and can be made by calling the BRHS office at 207-633-0820. Reserved seats will be held until 15 minutes before the meeting begins.
