Fish Pier rebuilding project underway
The red processing building on the sea pier is gone. Last week, Jordan Construction was hired by the town to demolish the building at 60 Atlantic Ave., the first step in the Fish Pier’s rebuilding project.
According to Alden Jordan, they recycled 95 percent of the material from the red building.
“We could have taken that building down in a day and a half if we’d just demolished it and taken it to the landfill,” Jordan said. “But we spent two extra days and separated out the metal and clean wood and brought it to the dump where they can make money off it.
“It’s better for the environment, it’s better for the district, it’s better for everyone,” Jordan said.
Town Manager Tom Woodin was very pleased with the efficiency of the work done, and especially the fact that so little waste was created. “They did an excellent job,” Woodin said.
The new tenants of the Fish Pier, Chuck and Jeanne Fuller, are currently getting bids on a new cooler for the pier. Currently they have a trailer on the pier that can hold between 150 and 170 barrels of bait.
“We have three bids so far, but we are still deciding which one to go with,” said Chuck Fuller at the May 13 selectmen’s meeting.
Selectman Denise Griffin asked if the new construction plans being worked on would take into account parking for large trucks at the pier.
“As a resident of the east side, I remember Reingardt’s large truck being parked partially in the road while being unloaded. Has this been addressed?” Griffin asked.
Woodin replied that it had, and that the large trucks would now be unloaded on the pier itself, with parking spaces for regular-sized vehicles near the road.
