Fireworks fundraising begins

Attention pyrotechnic fireworks fans: The end of May is almost here and that can only mean one thing; it will be warm soon. Well, maybe; but what it definitely means is that fireworks season is almost upon us.
Complete this sentence: The crocus is to spring what the fundraising ____ are to fireworks fundraising season.
If you said “cans,” you've lived here for awhile, or you've read my articles before.
Yes, the cans are the first outward sign of fireworks season. Dark blue and decorated with multi-colored letters and fireworks, you may have already seen one at the Harbor Market (formerly Carbone's), The Smiling Cow, Orne's Candy Store, Sherman's Book & Stationery, Red Cup Coffeehouse, East Boothbay General Store, Southport General Store, Hannaford Supermarket, Down East Ice Cream, The Fudge Factory and Bet's Fish Fry.
Complete this sentence: The Fireworks Committee must raise $20,000, for both the ___________ ____ and _____ __ ____ displays.
If you said Windjammer Days and the Fourth of July, you've lived here a long time, or you're a big fireworks fan. The festival display will be on Wednesday, June 26 and Independence Day's festivities will be on Thursday, July 4 (rain date July 5).
Now on occasion, rain and fog preempt the Windjammer Days fireworks display.
Complete this sentence: When Windjammer Days fireworks must be canceled, we can look forward to a double bang on the _____ __ ____.
If you said Fourth of July, you're wicked good at this.
The Windjammer Days Committee welcomed new chairman Dianne Gimbel as leader of the charge and farewell to Sally Bullard after five years of teamwork.
Gimbel has long been involved in the region including a six-year stint on the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and Head Elf of the Harbor Lights Festival for seven years. She is also co-owner of Gimbel & Sons Country Store, Smiling Cow and the Indian Trading Post. Why would she volunteer to take on more responsibility?
“Someone needed to do this; it's an important part of Windjammer Days and the 4th celebrations,” Gimbel said. “We live and work in an awesome community and I believe in doing my part.”
Joining Gimbel are decades long fireworks committee members Judy Paine, Kathy Bugbee, Leslie Cook, Kathy McKellum and Alice Thompson; and new recruits Lori Higgins, Meagan Hamblett, Mary Ripley and Michael Maxim.
To date Gimbel has lined up three fundraising events.
The first is a brunch buffet at McSeagull's on June 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a Bloody Mary bar and music by the region's favorite reggae band, Dani Tribesmen. Tickets are $25 per person.
Or, get your groove on in the Windjammer Days Golf Tournament & Cook Out on Sunday, June 23 (rain date Sunday, June 30), at the Boothbay Harbor Country Club.
Player fee is $85 per person (make checks payable to Community Fireworks). Fee includes cookout lunch, golf and a cart. Shotgun start at 1 p.m., and there will be an opportunity to buy mulligans. There will also be a cash bar, prizes (including a 50/50 raffle) and more. Join as teams or individuals.
Complete this sentence: The bigger the buck, the bigger the ____.
If you said “bang” you know how all this works.
Do your part to make sure the region's two annual fireworks displays dazzle not fizzle. Think ahhh-inspiring not awww-inspiring.
If you need more information about these fundraisers, or would like to schedule one, call Gimbel at 207-504-0242.
To make a fireworks donation by mail, make check or money order payable to “Community Fireworks,” ad mail to the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce, P.O. Box 356, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.
