End of an era
After 57 years of feeding the children of Southport Central School, Ramona Gaudette will be retiring this June.
The charismatic Gaudette has been a well-loved and enthusiastic fixture of life at the small island school. Her pending departure has been received with both sadness and appreciation for a lifetime of service to the community.
The Southport School Committee accepted Gaudette’s retirement letter at its meeting in January and the public announcement of her retirement at town meeting on Monday night was met with a few quiet murmurs of sadness.
“Ramona will be sadly missed by the parents, staff and generations of children,” School Committee Chairman Kathy Tibbetts said. “She has been a huge part of our school and we all appreciate all she has done for our community.”
In 2012, Southport selectmen honored Gaudette with the Spirit of America award for her unwavering devotion to the people she serves and her love of her job and community.
