Don't miss the ‘I Survived The Winter of 2015’ celebration
If you live in the towns of Edgecomb, Boothbay, Boothbay Harbor or Southport, you are invited to a big community event on Sunday, March 29 at the Boothbay Region YMCA from 1 to 3:30 p.m. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the fact that we made it through a very difficult winter.
We want to help everyone get beyond cabin fever or winter blues and get out, see neighbors and have some fun at the same time. That nice warm pool at the Y may be calling your name — no membership required. Just bring your suit and a towel and float your winter cares away. YMCA guides will help you to the pool area and locker room. The walking track will be open to you for a nice Sunday afternoon stroll and you’ll meet a fine young man from Lincoln Health Wellness Rehab Center who will be helping you along with your gait and giving tips for a nice comfortable walk. Sneakers please.
One of the key ingredients to the success of making it through this winter comes from our "road warriors," the plow truck teams, the emergency tow truck drivers who have been out on the roads 24/7 keeping our highways and byways safe for you. We’re going to recognize and celebrate all the municipal plow drivers and essential tow drivers during a part of our Sunday celebration. They’ve all had an invitation. We expect a great group to come through the doors of the Y starting at 1 p.m. with special recognition of them around 1:30 p.m. Some of their big rigs will be strategically parked in the Y parking lot for a specific reason.
If you’re not swimming or walking the track, the gym will be full of event booths offering all kinds of great information as we head toward spring. Staff from Lincoln Health have information and tips on dealing with winter blues, offering a blood pressure clinic, info on vaccinating, and more. Stretching techniques by Jim Stevens, site manager from Lincoln Health’s Wellness Rehab Center, will help you with that worn out back from shoveling. The chamber of commerce will be handing information to get you excited for summer. How about those fingernails or toenails — do they need a paint job from the Interact Club?
Join the Pie Walk! You’ll find tables full of homemade pies from all across our community and cookies and fresh fruit. Pick up a plate, let the volunteers from Edgecomb Congregational Church Youth Group and Coasties from our local Coast Guard Station serve you pie and add a dollop of ice cream or whipped cream.
Other event booths include chair massages; Coastal Maine Popcorn; face painting; 50/50 raffle, Dresses for Princesses; Boothbay Region Community Resources; Food For Thought; Wellness Foundation’s Awesome Seniors; Cultural Home Stay program; and Plant a Happy Seed with the folks from Community Garden Project at Rittall Farm. There will be some prize opportunities with balloons. And don’t forget — we’ve got a crazy hat contest going on.
Disc jockey Calvin Crocker will be spinning the tunes along with entertainment from The Praise Band at Boothbay Baptist Church, Ben Betts Band, a Zumba demonstration to get you all on your feet and we may even dance to “Happy!” The grand finale is an outdoor photo opportunity like none other.
Don’t miss a minute of this great afternoon. Sponsored by the Boothbay Region YMCA and Lincoln Health.
