Committee completes new comprehensive plan first draft
The updated comprehensive plan for Boothbay is now in the selectmen’s hands. The Comprehensive Plan Committee voted 7-0 Monday, Aug. 3, to submit the completed draft for the selectmen’s review.
The Comprehensive Planning Committee began updating the comprehensive plan in May 2013.
The plan was last updated in 1989. Comprehensive Plan Committee Vice Chairman Nell Tharpe described the updated document as a “good solid plan which is an improvement over the current one.” She doesn’t expect everybody to agree with all the recommendations, she said.
“The purpose of the plan is to give the town direction for the next 10-15 years,” she said. “But there is no perfection here. Not every single person is going to agree with everything in this plan. We just tried to find the best possible solutions we could.”
The selectmen will review the document and either request further revisions or place it on the November referendum ballot. Committee consultant Mark Eyerman advised the committee that their work was far from over.
“You shouldn’t think of this as the end of your work,” Eyerman said. “As the selectmen consider this for placement on the November warrant, you should think about potential questions from the public. You also need to get the word to make sure all the public’s potential concerns are answered.”
Eyerman advised the committee that they didn’t need to act on the second phase of their work until after Labor Day.
