Chimney fire in Boothbay
Boothbay and Boothbay Harbor firefighters responded to a chimney fire at the Reed residence at 12 Reed Road in Boothbay at 6:02 p.m. on November 26.
Traffic on Route 27 slowed to a one lane road for about 45 minutes as firefighters worked to control the fire that stayed contained to the upper chimney.
Initially, Ginny Farrin, co-owner of the Howard House hotel called 911 to report flames spewing out her neighbor’s chimney, which she thought was Robin Reed’s house in Boothbay Harbor. When Boothbay Harbor Fire Chief Nick Upham showed up, he discovered the chimney fire was actually at a Boothbay residence. Upham called Boothbay Fire Department, which responded to the scene moments later.
“It was quite a bit of fire, it took a bit of time,” said Boothbay Fire Chief Dick Spofford.
No injuries were reported at the scene. Spofford advised homeowners to inspect the inside of chimneys and to watch out for any buildup to prevent fires this winter.
