Chamber taps Bullard as Windjammers grand marshal
The Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce has chosen Sally “Sparkle” Bullard to be this year's grand marshal of the Windjammer Days' Street Parade, in honor of her service to the chamber and to the community.
The parade will take place on Wednesday, June 26, at 5 p.m. This year the new parade theme categories include: Most Nostalgic, Most Outrageous and Most Nautical. Bullard is well-known for her hard work and dedication over the last 10 years as the fireworks chairman.
This year’s grand marshal has also been active in the community through several other organizations, including Director of the Windjammer Parade in the mid-1980s, and a dedicated and effective board member for several years for both the Boothbay Region Humane Society and the Boothbay Region Historical Society. She has also served as president of the historical society for the last two years. Bullard was active with Safe Passage, and took four trips to Guatemala to visit her sponsor child and family.
“We are very pleased that Sally Bullard will be our grand marshal for this year's Street Parade,” said Catherine Wygant Fossett, Executive Director of the Boothbay Harbor Chamber of Commerce. “Sally's commitment to the community makes her a perfect selection for the Grand Marshal.”
Bullard will be accompanied by her two kids and grandkids in the parade.
The chamber is encouraging people to participate in the parade this year. New for 2013, participants can preregister online at the chamber’s Windjammer page (www.boothbayharbor.com/windjammer-days) or drop off or mail in a Street Parade registration form by Monday, June 17.
Preregistrants will receive an event T-shirt (valued at $15) that can be picked up at the chamber on Friday, June 21. Float captains will need to pick up T-shirts for the entire float team at the chamber office.
The 2013 Windjammer Days is scheduled to take place June 25-26, with the schooners appearing in Linekin Bay on Tuesday and in the harbor on Wednesday.
