Car versus snowbank
A minor car accident occurred in Boothbay Harbor at 5:36 p.m. on December 16.
Gina Gentry, 49, of Boothbay Harbor, was traveling westbound on Route 96 when her 2003 Dodge Durango exited the roadway and broke through the guard wires, coming to a stop in the snowbank across from the entrance of Simmons Drive.
Gentry's two daughters were in the car at the time of the accident.
No serious injuries were reported, according to Boothbay Harbor Police Officer Pat Higgins. Paramedics from Boothbay Region Ambulance Service inspected the driver and passengers.
Everyone was wearing their seat belts and the airbags never deployed, Higgins said.
Boothbay Harbor Fire Department also responded to the scene. BHFD Chief Nick Upham said it was not clear whether icy conditions contributed to the accident. The roads seemed in good conditions, he said.
The guard wires were snarled around the front axle, making it difficult for the wrecker truck to extricate the car from the snowbank, Higgins said.
Traffic was rerouted to Eastern Avenue for about an hour while the scene was cleared.
