'Cama Hagerthy … Come on down!'

Bucket list: Be a contestant on “The Price Is Right.” Check!
Cama Hagerthy of Boothbay, who used to watch the TV game show “The Price Is Right” with her grandmother and mother “all the time,” had always wanted to be a contestant on the show.
In fact, it was something she put on her “Bucket List” of things to do while still alive. Well, in late March of this year, she was chosen to “Come on down!” to contestants' row. The taped episode starring Hagerthy will be shown locally on WGME Channel 13 on Monday, May 6 beginning at 11 a.m.
Now, under her contract with CBS, we can't tell you if Hagerthy won or not, but we can tell you that she made it all the way to final Showcase Showdown! And that was after she avoided being injured when she fell down spinning the Big Wheel.
After a trip to Las Vegas for a jewelry and fashion buying trip for her sister's jewelry store in Bath where she works, Hagerthy made plans to visit her childhood friend, Brenda Walfield-Episcopo, in San Diego, Calif.
After a few days of visiting vineyards and enjoying their time together, Hagerthy and Walfield-Episcopo headed to Burbank to take in “The Price Is Right” after Hagerthy had received free tickets she had signed up for online.
“You're required to get there by 8:30 a.m., even though the taping doesn't start until around 12:30 p.m.,” said Hagerthy. “Because I had priority tickets, we were ushered into the studio through a different entrance than those waiting in line to perhaps get into the show.”
Hagerthy said she and others went through numerous interviews. While waiting in line, however, she noticed that the interviewer was writing more about those who were upbeat, so she decided to be more gregarious when she reached the interviewer.
“I also noticed these domes above us. I knew they were cameras so I thought if I remained all woo, woo, talking, laughing and showing I was having a good time, I might stand a chance of getting down to contestants row,” said Hagerthy. Walfield-Episcopo, who had made an appearance on the show about 25 years ago, didn't care if she made it to contestants row, said Hagerthy.
“She was the last one called to “Come on down' that day but never made it onstage,” said Hagerthy.
Wearing their “Drew's Maine Girls” shirts that Hagerthy had fashioned, Hagerthy and Walfield-Episcopo had their photos taken, with Big Wheel superimposed in the background.
After the studio provided lunch, the two Maine women were ushered into the studio around 11:55 a.m.
“We were some of the last people let into the studio,” said Hagerthy. “We were seated near a California softball team so I kept being gregarious and struck up a conversation with some of the players.”
Hagerthy said she had a feeling that she would get on the show while they waited for the taping to begin – especially when she spied the cue cards a man was holding on stage.
“I saw the letter 'Y' as he was trying to hold the cards,” said Hagerthy. “They have the cards to hold up in case the person called can't hear their name because it is so loud with everyone cheering.”
Lo and behold, Hagerthy was the fourth of the first four people called to contestants row – and she was the first one on stage for the day.
Host Drew Carey explained that she was going to play the Clock game, where she had to guess the prices of the prizes being offered in 30 seconds.
Again, Hagerthy was not able to divulge what prizes she won.
As one of the three contestants to spin the Big Wheel (where contestants can win cash prizes and the winner goes on to compete in the Showcase Showdown) Hagerthy came away the winner and spent the rest of the show waiting to play the Showdown.
“I fell down and Drew tried to help me up. I told him I was OK,” said Hagerthy. “That wheel is heavy! My daughter, Hope, told me that she hoped I wouldn't fall down.”
Hagerthy said she was getting very excited while waiting for the Showcase to begin.
“Oh my God, I'm in the Showcase is what I kept thinking while waiting to see which contestant she would be going up against,” said Hagerthy.
After the show, she called her husband, Alex Logan, who had trouble believing her.
“He said 'No, for real?' and I told him 'For real.'”
Only a select few family members know how Hagerthy did.
