Boothbay woman recovering after accident in Nebraska
As of Tuesday, Aug. 18, Allison Kate Wood was still recovering from severe facial injuries she had received after being struck by a truck while jogging on Route 109 in Colon, Nebraska, on Aug. 7.
Wood, 27, daughter of Eric Wood and Mary Wood, both of Boothbay, had recently moved to Nebraska and was staying with the Sam and Maria Lombardo family, formerly of Edgecomb, when the accident occurred. A 22-year-old male was driving the pickup that hit Wood. After the accident, Wood had to be flown by helicopter to the Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Bernadette "Ree Ree" Lombardo started a Facebook page, "Allison Kate's Journey to Recovery," providing updates on Allison's recovery (www.facebook.com/AllisonKatesJourney?fref=ts); and Allison’s cousin, Michelle Lewis Farnham, has started a fundraising campaign for her medical expenses through the GoFundMe website (http://www.gofundme.com/f5gvwhk4).
As of Tuesday, $2,460 had been pledged on the website.
In the update on Tuesday, Lombardo reported that Allison has been able to get out of her hospital bed several times a day and that the swelling in her face had subsided some.
