Boothbay Harbor town meeting day up for debate
Only 55 voters attended the last Boothbay Harbor town meeting on May 4. At the May 13 selectmen’s meeting, the town officers discussed possible ways to increase attendance.
One idea selectmen discussed was to change the day and time of the town meeting from 9 a.m. Saturday morning to Monday evening.
Since the annual Rocky Coast Road Race takes place at the same time as the current town meeting, there was discussion that traffic difficulties limited attendance. Also mentioned was the fact that some people would prefer to watch the race, or were participating in the race.
The selectmen decided that they would put out a survey to find out what the people of Boothbay Harbor want. There question being put forth is as follows: Would you prefer the Boothbay Harbor annual town meeting time be changed from Saturday morning at 9 a.m. to a Monday evening at 7:30 p.m.?
Surveys can be answered at the Boothbay Harbor town office at 11 Howard Street in the harbor, or online at www.surveymonkey.com/s/P6VN8TR/. Surveys can also be reached via the town’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/pages/Town-of-Boothbay-Harbor/110039065809895/.
