Books, authors and trains at Boothbay Railway Village

Children's book writers and illustrators gathered on Saturday morning at the Boothbay Railway Village to show and sell some of their more recent publications.
Eva Murray of Matinicus Island was showing her book “Island Birthday.” Publisher, Tilbury House, had matched her with illustrator Jamie Hogan who had taken images from various locations including a truck from Warren that was similar to one painted by Matinicus artist Maury Colton.
Murray has also published an adult book “Well Out to Sea,” which was on display in the afternoon session. Aside from fiction, Murray freelances for several Midcoast publications.
Thomas Block, a retired Wiscasset High School art teacher and illustrator of “Little Buzzy and the Giant Pumpkin” and “Togus, a Coon Cat Finds a Home,” was on hand with three new award-winning children’s books.
Block was with author Francine McEwen, author of “Susan’s Suitcase” and “Billy Big Ears and Bob the Bully,” two of books that they have collaborated on.
McEwen said her books carry strong message for children.
“I wanted to reach children that are troubled by grief,” said McEwen who lives in Manchester.
Author Jay Piscopo of “The Undersea Adventures of Capt’n Eli” was spotted boarding the narrow gauge train after showing his book.
The afternoon session continued with writers of adult books.
