Board of Appeals deliberations delayed again
For the second time in as many meetings, deliberations on the Anthony family’s administrative appeal of a building permit for Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens were delayed. The board adjourned its Oct. 4 meeting early after discussing unplanned visits two members made separately to inspect CMBG’s expansion site.
The fifth appeals board hearing started with planning board attorney John Shumadine advising a delay in deliberations until the entire board made a group site visit. Prior to the hearing, Shumadine was informed at least one board member had visited the expansion site. During the hearing, members Steve Malcom and Scott Adams reported they had briefly inspected the expansion site separately since the Sept. 21 hearing.
The new hearing schedule includes a group site visit with at least one deliberation session. The appeals board will conduct a site review at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17 at CMBG. The visit is expected to last about 2.5 hours. The board will later resume deliberations in the municipal building’s conference room. The Oct. 17 deliberation is scheduled to end at 9 p.m. If the board doesn’t conclude deliberations on Oct. 17, another session is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 19. The board also scheduled a Nov. 9 hearing, if necessary, to make a decision.
