Big touchdown for Souper Bowl of Caring
The Boothbay Region Food Pantry was the recipient of a big delivery of food and money gifts as a result of 10 community churches coming together on Super Bowl Sunday. During Sunday worship, members and friends of the participating churches brought in gifts of money and bags and bags of non perishable food. Once all the church deliveries were made to the pantry, food filled the hallway — a beautiful sight. The total amount brought in amounted to over $5,800 in food value and money.
Thank you to everyone involved throughout the Boothbay region community of churches for your incredible response to a call for help in the food pantry. Volunteers spent many hours stocking the shelves with your gifts and the money gifts will be used to purchase additional supplies that are needed to feed our neighbors. For every dollar donated, the food pantry can purchase $8 worth of groceries from Good Shepherd Food Bank.
Thank you to the participating churches: St. Columba’s Episcopal Church, East Boothbay Methodist Church, Southport Methodist Church, Boothbay Harbor Methodist Church, Christian Science Society, Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor, Boothbay Baptist Church, Barters Island Baptist Church, Our Lady Queen of Peace and Edgecomb Congregational Church. Great Team Effort!
This friendly competition between the community of churches resulted in the Souper Bowl Trophy going to the church bringing in the greatest total which is the Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor and second place going to Edgecomb Congregational Church. The real winners of this giving event are our neighbors who are in need of food to feed their families through the services of the Boothbay Region Food Pantry.
