Area churches announce Holy Week schedules
The following churches have submitted their Holy Week services and activities.
Edgecomb Congregational Church, UCC
Maundy Thursday, April 2: Our 7:30 p.m. service of worship will celebrate the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper, and observe the Service of Tenebrae, the gradual diminution of light.
Easter Sunday, April 5: An Easter Sunrise Service will be held at 6:15 a.m. at Fort Edgecomb, 66 Old Fort Road, Edgecomb. At 9:30 a.m. join us in the sanctuary of Edgecomb Congregational Church, as we greet the risen Christ with a service of word and praise.
An Easter morning breakfast will be served beginning at 7:30 a.m. including frittatas, muffins, fruit, yogurt, granola, oatmeal, juice and coffee. Donations gratefully accepted.

Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor
On Maundy Thursday, April 2, a service of Tenebrae (gradual darkening of the sanctuary) with communion will take place at 7 p.m. During this moving service of remembrance, the choir will sing "O Holy Jesus" by Ruth Schram, and the bell choir will play "What Wondrous Love Is This," arranged by Susan E. Geschke. During the service of Tenebrae, the sanctuary will be darkened gradually as the story of Jesus' betrayal is read and candles are extinguished. The Tenebrae service ends in silence.
An ecumenical Easter sunrise service will take place, April 5, at "three trees" Ocean Point at 5:45 a.m.
On Easter Sunday morning, there will be a joyful 10 a.m. service celebrating the resurrection. Both the choir and bell choir will fill the sanctuary with alleluias. The handbell choir will play "Fanfare For Easter" arranged by Dan R. Edwards, with trumpets played by Maeve O'Connell and Russ Hoffman. The choir, led by Eugenie O'Connell, will sing the William Boyce, "Alleluia" as well as Handel's "Hallelujah! Amen." Following a special message to children, there will be an egg hunt in the Sunday School. Sarah Foulger will preach the last sermon in a Lenten series on temptation, "The Temptation to Believe the Worst."

St. Columba's Episcopal Church
April 2: Maundy Thursday: 7 p.m. Service with Holy Eucharist
April 3: Good Friday: The church will be open all day for meditation; noon, Good Friday Liturgy; 1 p.m., The Way of the Cross; 2 p.m., Ecumenical Good Friday Service. Along with congregational hymn singing, lay and ordained speakers from Boothbay area churches will offer a series of prayer reflections on the seven last words spoken by Christ. All are welcome.
April 4: Easter Eve: 7 p.m. Great Vigil of Easter
April 5: Easter Day: 10 a.m. Festal Easter Eucharist
April 7: Holy Tuesday: 10:30 a.m. Service of Healing at St. Andrews Village
First Congregational Church of Wiscasset
A candlelight service will be held on Maundy Thursday, April 2, at 6:30 p.m. The choir selection will be “For God So Loved the World” by Alan Bullard.
St. Philip’s Episcopal Church will join the First Congregational Church of Wiscasset for Easter by the Bay, a sunrise service on the Wiscasset pier, beginning at 6 a.m. on April 5, with The Rev. Susan Craig and The Rev. Paul Tunkle officiating. Music will be provided by Dr. Jeff Grosser. Coffee and doughnuts will be served in the Wiscasset Yacht Club following the service. Blankets and folding chairs are recommended for those attending. In the event of rain, the service will be held in the yacht club.
“Alleluia, Then and Now” will be Craig’s sermon topic at the 10 a.m. service on Easter. Under the direction of Leela Koilpillai, choral music for the service will include “Hallelujah for the Mount of Olives” by Ludwig van Beethoven.
The First Congregational Church is located at 28 High Street in Wiscasset. All events are open to the public and guests are always welcome.
Methodist Church Cooperative
The Cooperative Parish churches consist of Boothbay Harbor United Methodist, Southport Methodist and East Boothbay's Methodist churches.
Our Holy Week services will be:
April 2: Maundy Thursday: Simple supper and worship at Southport UMC, 5:30 p.m.
April 3: Good Friday: Musical Service of Darkness at Boothbay Harbor UMC, 6:30 p.m.
April 5: Easter Sunrise Newagen at 6:10 a.m.; Easter Breakfast at East Boothbay UMC, 6:30 a.m.; Easter Breakfast at Southport UMC, 6:30 a.m.; Regular worship service times at each church; Community Easter Dinner at Boothbay Harbor UMC at 1 p.m.
Second Congregational Church, UCC of Newcastle
On Thursday, April 2 at 7 p.m., Maundy Thursday service. This service is a spiritually moving way of preparation for the celebration of Easter’s joyous victory.
On Easter Sunday (April 5) the church will be actively supporting sunrise services at 6 a.m., both at Pemaquid Point Lighthouse and Bunker Hill Baptist Church in Jefferson. The church’s pastor, The Rev. Ken Dale, will be leading the services at Bunker Hill and later in Newcastle.
At 10 a.m. Second Congregational Church UCC will celebrate the resurrection with a family centered worship that will feature Hand Bell and Chancel Choirs under the direction of Jane Wilmot. The worship will also include a special and fun Easter message for “children of all ages” that will capture the surprise of that first Easter morning. There will also be a community Easter egg hunt.

Midcoast Unitarian Universalist Fellowship
The Rev. Erika Hewitt will lead the Easter Service at the Midcoast Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Sunday, April 5 at 10:30 a.m. in the Porter Auditorium of Skidompha Library in Damariscotta.
