AOS 98 budget items pass unanimously
Alternative Organizational Structure (AOS) 98 passed all budget votes unanimously Dec. 10.
Superintendent Keith Laser got a contract extension through June 30, 2021 with a 2% increase in salary from $118,450 to $120,820 and with six weeks of vacation. The superintendent’s office staff salaries rose just over 7% from $147,130 to $158,073. A technology stipend for Brynne Roseberry increased over 100% from $5,125 to $10,588. The total operating budget for the superintendent’s office rose 3.5% from $441,749 to $457,059.
Lisa Smith was reelected special services director for a July 1, 2020 to June 30, 2023 contract. The board increased Smith’s salary 3% from $88,683 to $91,343. The special services staff salary increased 3% from $38,028 to $39,169. And the total operating budget for special services increased 2.5% from $171,708 to $175,990.
The total operating budget for the AOS 98 system rose 3.2% from $613,457 to $633,049. Funds carried forward totaled $598,049, an increase of 2.5% from last year’s $583,457.
The cost sharing plan based on October’s Essential Programs and Services subsidy, passed with Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor Community School District accounting for 56.73% of costs; Edgecomb, 22.88%; Georgetown, 14.29%; and Southport, 6.1%.
John Bertolet, Tom Abello and Peggy Splaine were unanimously elected to keep their respective seats of chair, vice chair and secretary of the AOS 98 school committee through Aug. 31, 2021.
