Ambulance Service budget, TIFs and a visit from the commissioners
The agenda for the February 26 Boothbay selectmen meeting is full of important items. First, before the meeting, the Edgecomb selectmen will meet in executive session with the Boothbay selectmen at 6 p.m. to possibly hash out an inter-local agreement to share the cost of code enforcement between the two towns.
Nothing is set in stone, but under the agreement, the town of Boothbay would maintain all the records and resources for both towns’ zoning laws for a one-year trial period. During that time, records and statistics would be kept to see if the towns would want to negotiate future contracts.
Town officials believe that by outsourcing services, Boothbay could bring in an estimated $12,000 of new revenue each year, while Edgecomb could benefit from the full time service of code enforcement and plumbing inspections. Edgecomb currently does not have a full time code enforcement officer. If the towns enter into a contract, a public vote will not be needed for a one year trial. The public cannot participate in tonight's executive session.
Commissioners called to the mat
The regularly scheduled selectmen meeting will kick off with a visit from Lincoln County Commissioner Ham Meserve and Administer John O'Connell. Lately some selectmen have been curious about the commissioners' healthcare benefits and other issues concerning how county tax money is being spent.
Budget deliberations
Budget talks continue with the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library, the Cemetery District, the Boothbay Region Ambulance Service and the Boothbay Region Refuse Disposal District. Most of these discussions will focus on expenditures and budget projections for the following fiscal year, and a lot of attention will likely be centered on the BRAS budget. Since the closure of St. Andrews Emergency Room last year, taxpayers endured an increased cost for ambulance service. Expect many details to be analyzed from the boards of selectmen and the BRAS budget committee this week.
Following budget talks, the board will discuss the (in)famous tax incremental financing district, which will be up for a vote at the annual town meeting, as well as what the future holds for the Cross River Center Property.
All this and more starting at 7 p.m. at the Boothbay Town Office. Let the good times roll!
