YMCA, BHYC youngsters go sailing

As part of the new collaboration between the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club and the Boothbay Region YMCA, 10 Scamper Campers from the YMCA joined six Mini Mariners from BHYC recently for a sail around Boothbay Harbor. For many of the youngsters, it was their first time sailing.
The morning was made possible thanks to volunteers from the Boothbay Harbor One Design association who joined the staff of both programs on the water. Participants were able to simply go along for the ride, or to take a more active role in steering or sheeting the sails on the 21-foot boats.
The YMCA Scamper Campers Program is for kids aged 5-6 and the BHYC Mini Mariners Program is geared towards future sailors aged 6-8. All enjoyed the time on the water and getting to meet new friends. We look forward to more combined days as we continue to work together.
