Y-Arts dazzles at annual Christmas concert
A sparkling display of musical talent was offered on the altar at Congregational Church of Boothbay Harbor Wednesday night, Dec. 18 as the Boothbay Region Y-Arts program presented its annual Christmas concert.
This year’s concert, titled “Sounds of the Season,” saw the Music Theatre Dance group burst onto the altar without introduction to sing and dance to “Nicest Kids in Town.” Following the routine, Y-Arts Director Emily Mirabile welcomed the audience (which nearly filled the church pews) to the concert. Arts for All followed with a performance of “Circle of Life” from “The Lion King.”
Then it was time for the youngest Y-Arts performers, the Kiddie Choir, to entertain. With help from a few of the veteran Y-Arts performers, the Choir sang and moved to “Song in My Tummy,” “S.A.N.T.A.,” and “Jingle Bells.” Cuteness prevailed.
Four numbers by the Youth Chorus included “Let There Be Peace on Earth,” “Feliz Navidad,” “Christmas is Coming,” and the hilarious “Nuttin’ for Christmas.”
Four violin students, under the direction of Emily Sue Barker and accompanied on piano by Ann Barker, then played “Jingle Bells,” “Jolly Old St. Nicholas,” “O Come Little Children,” and “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star.”
The 45-minute concert finished with four performances. The Music Theatre Dance kids sang and danced to “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town,” followed by the Arts for All group and Youth Chorus reading and singing “Merry Almost Christmas.” All the performers then led the audience in the singing of “Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer” and “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
As the 15-foot Christmas tree near the altar stood shining brightly, and the wreath hung high above the altar glowed with lights, families and friends gathered their belongings and departed smiling as the “Sounds of the Season” appeared to put the joy of Christmas in their hearts.
