We were saddened to hear of the passing of Ted Ward last weekend. Ted died at his home in East Boothbay of a heart attack. Joyce was at his side as always. There is no funeral but a celebration of his life will be held in the summer.

Well it's cold and there is a lot of snow but that is what living in Boothbay Harbor is all about. For our many readers in warmer climates, you can just be envious of our experiences. The calendar for the 2014 season is now available online at BHYC.net. Jim updates it every couple of weeks and there will be small changes from time to time as things get refined. The major event dates are set and cast in stone so you can start to firm up your own calendars for the summer. You can always tell what edition it is by looking in the top right corner.

The Membership Committee is hard at work throughout the winter handling applications, meet and greet events, and the myriad details that go along with processing and reviewing applicants' information. Under the chairmanship of Suzy Mace and Lee Rowan, this committee is one of the most important. Other committee members include Chris Roberts, Anne Hughes, Michael Pollard, Bill Friedman, Allen Forsyth, Dan Hare, Eva Johnson and Chris Kipp. Contact any of these folks if you have people to recommend for membership. Donna has all of the appropriate forms in the office which you can get after contacting the committee.

Be sure to make your plans to participate in the many areas of volunteer activity needed to make the Corinthian Ocean Race (AKA Lobster Run) a success. John Chapman is the general chair and he can steer you to the right subcommittee chair to enroll you in the support of this huge undertaking. The race starts on July 25 at Stonington, Conn., and ends some two and a half days later off McKown Point.

The January cocktail party will be on the 23rd at the home of Michael and Abby Smith in Edgecomb.
