Victory at Winthrop

The BRHS boys and girls cross-country team continued their success competing at Winthrop high school Wednesday, Sept. 5. Both teams placed first at the meet against four other teams in the field.
The boys squad celebrated a commanding win over Monmouth, Winthrop, Hall-Dale and Lisbon high schools. Benn Scully led the pack for Boothbay finishing in a time of 19:34, and placed third overall. Robert Campbell crossed the finish line only four seconds later claiming second place for Boothbay, and Alex Owen capped off the top three finishers for the Seahawks, placing seventh overall in a field of 51 runners.
The girls team defeated Monmouth Academy by a difference of one point, claiming victory over the Mustangs, and the Lisbon Greyhounds. Sophia Thayer took first place overall with a commanding 42 second lead over the nearest runner, Emma Wilson from Winthrop. Wilson had defeated Thayer on numerous occasions in track and field last season, making Sophia’s feat all the more spectacular. Morgan Crocker and Hannah Morley finished third and fourth place overall, rounding off the top three Boothbay runners in the 5,000-meter course.
Boothbay will host the only home meet of the season, Wednesday, Sept. 5 starting at 4:15 p.m.
