Trevett Column: Potluck June 21, lobster raffle and more
June 21 is the next potluck on the schedule with a 5:30 p.m. start time. Host Irena would like you to bring either a main dish, a side dish, a salad, or a dessert to share. You are welcome to bring you own appetizers for this gathering. You should also bring your beverage of choice. As usual, BICA will have coffee and water available.
Denny and Donna will be presenting a short talk on their bee enterprise. You will want to “bee” present to hear about their bees and bee merchandise. There will bee a display of many of the Barters Island Bees bee products that Denny and Donna have developed.
May’s taco night was a fun evening for the over 40 folks in attendance. Lots of yummy sides to go with the main dish tacos. Paul and Louise had a great kitchen crew of first timers Michelle and Jim and seasoned helpers Robin and Robert. Michelle and Jim are now qualified as kitchen help so if you think you would like to help at a potluck, talk to them and get the full scoop.
Bill and Susan provided the after-dinner entertainment with Bill swinging the pinata and Susan (wearing a paper bag blindfold) whacking away. After a few air whiffs, Susan really connected and managed to scatter the pinata’s innards. Susan and Bill earned the good sports award.
Special thanks to Laura and Bucky for manning the lobster raffle table at the potluck. If you haven’t heard, the BICA hall roof needs repairs and a raffle of 25 lobsters is being held to help defray the cost of the new rubber coating. Tickets (1 ticket for $1, 6 tickets for $5) will be available at the June potluck and at the July 1 Better Than A Yard Sale or at any time from Evelyn. The winning ticket will be drawn after the July 1 sale.
This is your final reminder for when you are doing your spring/summer/cottage opening cleaning -- be sure to save those no longer needed nice items for the July 1 Better Than A Yard Sale sale. This year the only books being accepted are cookbooks and gardening books. No clothing, large pieces of furniture or electronics are accepted. We are in need of either indoor or outdoor plants so if you are able to help in that area please let Evelyn know.
Drop off at the BICA hall of your amazing donations will start Thursday, June 22 and continue every day (except Sunday, June 25) through Thursday, June 29. The drop off hours are 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. every day. If other arrangements for the drop of items need to be made, call either Joan (207-633-2778) or Evelyn.
This sale is BICA’s only fund raiser this year so we want it to be a monumental success. You can help by donating, helping with the sale and/or shopping. You can also help by donating a baked good for sale at the Better Than A Yard Sale.
If you have any questions about any BICA activities or events or if you know of a neighbor or someone on the island who needs a little assistance please get in touch with Evelyn (207-380-6977 or evelynshahan@gmail.com)
