Tidal Transit Kayak is providing a great opportunity for Boothbay region residents interested in working as Registered Maine Sea Kayak Guides. A free guide training course is being offered for year-round and seasonal residents who have previous sea kayaking experience.

The course typically costs $450, and is an intensive three days. Approximately half of the time is spent in the classroom and half on the water. Among other topics, the course covers trip planning and navigation, risk management, rescues and towing techniques, and group management. All necessary equipment and materials for the course are provided.

This course prepares participants for the guide license exam which is administered by the state in Augusta, and includes an oral and written exam. The state requires a background check before applying for the guide license, and this must be completed before the course.

Tidal Transit has been offering this course annually since 2009, and to date has trained over 50 Registered Maine Guides. Anyone interested in participating can contact Travis at travis@tidaltransit.com
