Terrific Turkey Trot
Dear Editor:
It was a festive atmosphere on Thanksgiving Day when 160 community members ran or walked our cross-country trails for the annual Turkey Trot. Participants generously donated almost $4,000 including a generous contribution from our Interact Club. The funds raised will be used to improve the cross-country trails located behind the fields at Boothbay Region Elementary School.
We would like to thank everyone who donated to make this fundraising event so successful. This year Sue Burge and Nancy Van Dyke were honored. They received the “Lifetime Achievement Award” for all their work to establish Set for Success, a program dedicated to giving free school supplies to all students in our area. Sarah Harris, BRHS Student Body president, presented engraved Bleacher Plaques to Nancy and Sue.
We are grateful to BRHS students Cole Hyson, Maddie Andreasen and Harris who interviewed participants and filmed the event for Boothbay Region Community TV. Our sincere thanks to Boothbay Register reporter, Fritz Freudenberger, for his great coverage and photos of the Turkey Trot.
Come join us next year! The Turkey Trot is a wonderful opportunity to mingle with people on our peninsula and catch up with people who are visiting family for the holiday. Mark your calendars for Thursday Nov. 26, 2026 for next year’s Turkey Trot.
