Susan D. Foss
Susan Diane (Rainey) Foss passed peacefully into the arms of our Savior on the morning of Oct. 4, 2025.
Born in Farmington, Maine on June 3, 1938 to Robert Rainey and Ruth (Harmon) Rainey. she spent her first few years growing up in Wilton, Maine among grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. She moved with her mother to Jay, Maine for a short time before moving to Livermore Falls, Maine.
She loved to rollerskate, and spent much of her time at the roller rink at Bear Pond Park with friends, especially her future cousin-in-law, Sandra Rich. She was brought up in the Livermore Falls Church of the Nazarene.
She married her high school sweetheart, Ted Foss, after he joined the Marine Corps. They lived in Jacksonville, Florida and Cherry Point, North Carolina where her son, Jeffrey Scott Foss was born, before moving back to Livermore, Maine. Her daughter, Dawn Pamela Foss was born in Farmington, Maine. Ted then joined the Maine State Police and the family moved for a brief time to Washington, Maine before settling in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Her second daughter, Kris Noelle (Foss) Stahle was born in Boothbay Harbor, Maine.
Susan opened a daycare in her home and was the other mother to many, many children from the Boothbay region, while also being a single mother to her own three children. She then went to work at Pratt’s Jewelry Store, as she was very close with Gladys Pratt. When the Pratts sold their store to A Silver Lining, Susan went with the sale! She remained the face of A Silver Lining for decades. With her attention to customers and great taste in jewelry, she was the mastermind behind countless birthday, anniversary and Christmas gifts to members of the community, always lending a hand in choosing the perfect gift for loved ones. She never “retired” as she could often be found at A Silver Lining for special events even after her health prevented her from working full time.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Susan, know that she was the example of grace, compassion and strong will. She led her family with high expectations and a giving heart.
In her later years, Susan loved watching "Wheel of Fortune," "Jeopardy" and sports of any kind, but what she most loved was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a long time member of the Boothbay Baptist Church.
Susan is survived by her children, Jeffrey Foss (Deborah), Dawn Foss (Steve Foye), Kris Stahle (Douglas); her grandchildren, Meghan Hamm (Brandon), Shannon Detwiler (Ben), Taylor Satoh (Junichi), Tucker Stahle (Sarah Caron), Madison Stahle (Zach Allen); her great grandchildren, Brody, Sawyer, Blakely, Sydnie, Koharu and Logan; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
