Support the Lung Association by cycling at the YMCA

Each June, for almost three decades, the American Lung Association of the Northeast has hosted the annual Trek Across Maine on Father’s Day weekend, the organization’s largest fundraiser nationwide. Training for the Trek in the cold, winter months can be difficult. The Boothbay Region YMCA has provided a unique solution by offering group cycling classes, Trek Across Maine Indoors, at their facility at 261 Townsend Avenue in Boothbay Harbor.
“During the cold, winter months, training for the Trek can often be difficult,” said Jeff Seyler, president and CEO of the American Lung Association of the Northeast. “We are so thankful to the Boothbay Region YMCA for offering the Trek Across Maine Indoors at their facility so that our trekkers can get a jump start on training.”
Trek Across Maine Indoors will mimic the Trek’s 180-mile route, offer food at simulated rest stops and each cyclist will receive a Tech shirt. The Boothbay Region YMCA will hold three 7-week training sessions on Monday evenings. The first begins on January 6 and continues to February 17. The second session begins February 24 to April 7 and the final session begins April 28 to June 9. All sessions run from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Jeannie Hamrin, a Trek Across Maine Indoors cyclist who participated last year, commented “… lots of camaraderie as we biked over the imagined hills, valleys, peaks and depths. Traveling this distance together as a team and no matter how fast one went was irrelevant … we were all winners!”
Registration for the Trek Across Maine Indoors begins December 23. For more info, contact Mary Baudo, Wellness Director, at 207-633-2855 or by email at mbaudo@brymca.org.
The 30th anniversary Trek Across Maine runs from June 13 to June 15, 2014. Each participant is responsible for a $65 registration fee and a $500 fundraising minimum. Incentives are offered for any participant who raises $1,000 or more. The Trek covers 180 miles over three days, providing breathtaking views, adventure and an unmatched sense of camaraderie.
