Summer weather lingers
As many of you know, I will be writing the column for the Ocean Point community and I am excited to do so. I thought I would begin right after the holiday, however, I decided to begin as I have lots of news to report. First let me thank you all for your emails, kind words of encouragement and support, I am extremely grateful. I would also like to thank Pat Waldman for her many years of service to our community and to keeping us all informed of activities here at the Point.
Despite what the calendar may say, summer weather lingers and last Saturday was no exception. It was what my father use to refer to as “a real Ocean Point day.” There are still many Ocean Pointers here enjoying the beautiful weather; it was great to see that long time Ocean Pointer Betsy (Pike) O’Keefe, her daughter Melissa and Jeanne Pond are here and Krista Irmischer was seen on her roller blades racing around the Point. I’m sure the holiday weekend will find lots of Ocean Pointers returning for one last visit so I hope to see as many of you as possible.
It will also be the last weekend for the Ocean Point Inn, thank you Tony Krason and staff for another great season. Tony held his charity golf tournament over the weekend and I understand it was a huge success. Many OP golfers were in attendance: Bill, Gerry, Dan and Joe Shea as well as Will Bertrand Lanny Whitehouse, Link Brown Eric Marden and Joe Clark to name just a few.
I know I speak for the OP golf community as well as many other Ocean Pointers who are so thankful to Paul Coulombe for all of the wonderful changes that have been made to the golf course, with many more to come.
Thanks as well to Jim and Kathy Dunklee for another season at the OP store. Of course we are all hoping for another season next summer but we wish you both well in whatever your future plans may hold. For those of you who are lucky enough to be staying indefinitely, the EB General store will remain open for the winter thanks to Liz and her staff, so make sure you stop in to enjoy the great food.
Marilyn Heiss would like you all to know that she has four extra large OP sweatshirts (marigold) for sale and the price has been reduced. Please contact her if you wish to purchase one. You can reach Marilyn at jandmheiss@gmail.com or at 207-633-5520.
Dave Mchold reports that he and Pat have put their Maryland home up for sale and will spend a good amount of time in Maine while decisions are made. Newlyweds China and Tom are in Maryland. Heather just returned to Kentucky after two years in China. Megan is in Baltimore with a new baby and Mattie is in Northampton, Mass., with fiancé, Beth. Joan Fischer also reports that Annie is happy living in Denver and Jake is in New York.
Congratulations to Jim and Judie Boyd on the birth of their new granddaughter, Audrey Marie Blanchette and to her parents Cait and Chad.
If you are packing up to leave for the season and have canned goods left over, please remember the Food Pantry.
Have a great week and enjoy the weather.
