Summer concert series begins July 28 at WW&F

Tue, 07/24/2018 - 1:30pm

Beginning July 28, the Wiscasset, Waterville and Farmington Railway Museum in Alna is hosting a concert series featuring some of Maine’s best acoustic musicians.  The series, the first such that the Museum has offered, is based on public concerts that the Railway held during the early twentieth century. People from throughout the Sheepscot Valley would travel by narrow gauge railway to the Railway’s bandstand on the shore of China Lake.

The backdrop for this summer’s concert series will be the beautiful field’s of the Albee Farm adjacent to Alna Center station. Concerts will be held rain or shine underneath a large tent and the Museum’s classic 1930 Ford AA truck serving as the stage. Visitors are encouraged to bring blankets and picnics along for their enjoyment during the concert.

Kicking off the series on July 28, the versatile acoustic duo Married with Chitlins will perform traditional American music, old time country and blues, some jazz standards, and Celtic reels and jigs, with guitar and fiddle with a strong female lead vocal with harmonies, along with sprinklings of mandolin and harmonica.

Our Aug. 25 concert features Rough Sawn. This local string band is composed of farmers and carpenters—true salt of the earth people. They are renowned for their excellent covers of classic country, bluegrass, folk and Western swing as well as timeless originals. They’re excellent sound and style is revered throughout Midcoast Maine. You won’t want to miss their rich four-part harmonies.

Sept. 8th’s concert features Indie-Soul-Folk band GoldenOak fronted by siblings Zak and Lena Kendall. Originally from the Sandy River Valley in western Maine and now based in Portland, they began performing and writing together in 2014. Winners of an “EP of the Year” award from the Portland Music Awards, GoldenOak also received acclaim as ambassadors of the Maine folk scene, and was nominated by Dispatch Magazine as one of Portland’s best up and coming bands.
