Student Aid Fund welcomes five new board members
At a recent meeting of the Boothbay Region Student Aid Fund, the Board of Trustees elected five new board members. This means that the BRSAF board will be fully complete as the body prepares for its fall fundraising campaign.
The new board members, Nicholas Hurd, Charles Koch, Brian McGrath, Diane Spofford Randlett and Sarah Strouss, bring needed strengths to the board.
Hurd is a graduate of Hobart College with a distinguished business career in management with such firms as Manufacturers Hanover Trust and Russell Reynolds Associates (where as a managing director he spearheaded searches for executive talent). A Southport resident, he has served on numerous boards, including, locally, the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, and as president of the Southport Island Association.
Indiana-born Koch graduated from the University of Chicago School of Medicine, and from 1965-1989 practiced internal medicine in Venice, Fla. For part of that time he practiced medicine in a large medical complex that he founded. Koch also founded and served as CEO of a Venice youth drug intervention and rehabilitation program. He has been active in youth sailing programs in Venice and at the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club.
McGrath grew up in Hamburg, N.Y., and graduated in finance from Kent State University. Before moving to the Boothbay region, McGrath worked in Boston for both Fidelity and Putnam investments. Currently, McGrath works as project manager for nearby Hodgdon Yachts. He brings his enthusiasm for the BRSAF’s mission and a wealth of investment knowledge.
Born in St. Andrews Hospital and part of a family rooted in the Boothbay region for over 11 generations, Spofford Randlett is a University of Maine System graduate. She has worked for numerous local enterprises including the Lawnmeer Inn, Fisherman’s Wharf and the Spruce Point Inn. Recently, she did some reporting and writing for the Boothbay Register. Her intense interest in educational issues, and her writing skills make her a vital asset to the mission of the BRSAF.
Orginially from Buffalo, N.Y., and a graduate of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, Strouss spent the bulk of her working career in Youngstown, Ohio, where she did architectural/corporate photography. While there, she also taught for 13 years at Youngstown State University. Since moving with her husband to the Boothbay region in 2008, Sarah has been involved with the Botanical Gardens and Lifeflight of Maine.
BRSAF welcomes all the new board members as we commence a new year of aiding all graduates of Boothbay Region High School in each one’s pursuit of a post-secondary education and in quest of successful careers in his or her chosen field.
