Student Aid Fund board welcomes four new members

The Boothbay Region Student Aid Fund (BRSAF) enhances its already diverse and active board by welcoming four new members this year.

Husband and wife new board members Susan and Robert (Bob) Corbin are year-round residents of Boothbay. Susan is a retired U.S. Coast Guard commander, having spent 20 years on active duty. She now teleworks full-time with the Department of Homeland Security Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office on chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear security matters. Since early January 2020, her focus has been on the coronavirus response and next steps.

Bob Corbin spent 22 tears on active duty as a U.S. Coast Guard commander, after which he worked for the U.S. Department of Energy for almost 14 years, the last five years of which, in charge of the U.S Strategic Petroleum Reserve. He is currently semi-retired. He has his own consulting company (Energy Action LLC) and does part-time consulting work in the energy sector.

Teresa Koster brings a 20-year career in public health, managed care and insurance industries to the BRSAF Board. Following work with major insurance groups including Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Teresa founded the Koster Insurance Agency, drawing on her in-depth knowledge of student health insurance needs in the higher education community. Now known as Gallagher Student Health & Special Risk, the agency specializes in student medical, sports and special risk insurance. In 2003, Teresa founded the American College Health Foundation’s Innovative Practices in College Health Fund, which awards mini-grants to student health centers to develop innovative practices that improve access to quality healthcare for students.

Tory Paxson is digital marketing coordinator for the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens since 2015. She graduated from BRHS in 2008, bringing us the perspective of a former student. She studied marketing, web and graphic design at New England School of Communications in Bangor where she received a bachelor’s in communications in 2012. With that degree she promptly moved back to Boothbay Harbor to start a career. She has also worked as the assistant manager in the Palabra Shop in downtown Boothbay Harbor, and has substituted at the YMCA daycare.
