Southport selectmen finalize appointments, job description
Southport selectmen on March 30 provided the final list of recent appointees and committee members.
With only two exceptions, appointees are returning to continue their service to the island. The exceptions are Dave Pratt, who is now Southport’s animal control officer, and Mike Ciccarelli, who recently accepted the position of emergency management director.
Those who have agreed to continue their service to the town are: Henry Berne, plumbing inspector and code enforcement officer; Jim Gagnon, building inspector, assistant code enforcement officer, harbor master; Rob Hopkins, assistant harbor master, constable, and refuse disposal district representative (all for Squirrel Island); Gerald Gamage, constable, ambulance service representative; Steve Gaudette, constable; Nick Upham, shellfish warden; and Donna Climo, registrar of voters.
Jeff Brown and Lauren Stockwell will serve on the planning board and Matt Cole will serve as an associate planning board member. Bruce Foelich will return to the planning board of appeals, and Bill Mesmer and Robert Eaton will continue as trustees of the Hendrick’s Hill Museum.
Selectmen have also finalized the job description for the island’s full-time public works employee. Two part-time positions are being consolidated into one full-time job.
The public works department is responsible for the town’s roads (both condition and equipment), snow removal, maintaining the town bridge, docks and floats and maintaining all buildings and lands owned by the town.
The new job will come with health insurance, 10 paid vacation days, paid holidays and 12 days for sick leave. The position is 40 hours per week, with some flex time allowed. Overtime or compensatory time off will be available in certain circumstances.
A complete description and notice of the position will be advertised in the Boothbay Register in the near future. Anyone interested in the job may bring their resume to the Southport Town Office.
