The Christmas Pickle might be remembered for years.

As the Southport Central School students led the standing-room-only audience in the closing holiday sing-along at their annual Winter Concert at Southport Town Hall Wednesday evening, Dec. 11, the Christmas Pickle (sixth grader Ella Watts dressed in this year’s Halloween costume) jumped on stage and danced, took a stroll through the audience, and put everyone in a jolly mood as the last words of the night, “Good tidings of Christmas and a Happy New Year!” were sung.

The kindergarten through sixth grade students, under the direction of music teacher Jennifer McIvor, performed seven songs before the sing-along started. The songs included: “The Best Gift of All” by the K-1 students; “Believe” by grades two-three; “Winter Wonderland of Snow” by grades four, five and six; “Spotted Pony,” by the grades 4-6 violin class; a duet piano piece by sixth grader Eleanor Marshal with six students joining her on the keyboard when called; “Sing” by grades four, five and six; and “Everybody Has a Light to Shine” by all of the students.

Christmas jokes were told throughout the program by the students. Hosts included sixth grader Sarah Harris, fourth grader Georgia Griffin and fifth grader Pippa Schoenthal. Principal and teacher Lisa Clarke welcomed everyone and before the concert began, plants were presented to McIvor for putting the concert together and school assistant Eileen Higgins for decorating the hall.
