With the National Weather Service predicting a severe wind chill warming for Midcoast Maine, Southport selectmen approved making the town hall a warming center for Feb. 3 and 4. On Feb. 1, selectmen voted to make the town hall available on Friday morning into Saturday evening to residents. “It’s for anyone who needs a warmer clime. Anyone who wants to go over and hang out for a few hours is welcome,” Selectman Smith Climo said.

In other action, selectmen signed the annual audit engagement letter with William H. Brewer & Company of Bath. The town also has a new code enforcement officer and licensed plumbing inspector. Selectmen appointed Jim Gagnon who worked with the former CEO/LPI Henry Bernier as part of the transition. Gagnon’s term ends Dec. 31.

Selectmen approved two town hall rentals. Ashlea Tibbetts received approval for a Feb. 26 birthday party. Boothbay Region Garden Club received approval for July 21. The club plans to use the parking lot as part of their summer tour. Selectmen meet next at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 in the town hall.
