Seahawks track and field MVCs results

Seahawks track and field teams made an impression at the Mountain Valley Conference Championship May 23. The boys placed fourth out of 13 teams and the girls placed 10th out of 14 teams. Competitors included Monmouth Academy, Lisbon, Winthrop, Spruce Mountain, Telstar, Mt. Abram, Carrabec, Hall-Dale, Wiscasset, Richmond Mountain Valley, Madison, and Dirigo high schools.

“Congratulations on a great night of track and field at the Mountain Valley Conference Championships,” said Coach Nick Scott. “There were a ton of personal bests and lots of people scored points.”

Boys’ results

Will Perkins was named the male track athlete of the year by a ballot vote submitted by all coaches in the MVC.

Gerald Gagne took sixth in the 100m dash in 12.19 and 10th in the 200m dash in 25.69 seconds with Graham Harris hot on his heels for 12th place in 25.82. Gagne ran a personal best in the 100m which qualified him provisionally for states and earned him 10th on the Seahawk Top Ten list.

Blake Erhard took second in the 400m dash in 53.59 seconds which is 0.05 seconds away from setting a new school record in the event.  Will Perkins and Fox Elder took first and 10th, respectively, in the 800m run in 2:04.91 and 2:14.50. Perkins and Harris took second and 10th, respectively, in the 1600m race in 4:39.36 and 5:08.22. Perkins and Nathan Chatterton took second and 9th, respectively, in the 3200m race in 10:48.72 and 11:34.31. Chatterton’s efforts culminated in beating his personal record by 10 seconds.

Quinn Ranta took seventh in both triple jump and 300m hurdles and fifth in 110m hurdles. Ranta’s respective results were 36’4”, 48.47 and 18.69 seconds.

The Seahawk boys 4x400m relay team – Elder, Harris, Gagne and Ranta – took fourth in 3:57.57. The 4x800m team – Erhard, Elder, Harris and Chatterton – took second in 9:02.22.

All Conference teams were decided by performances during the event noted Scott. This puts Erhard on the second team for the 400m race, Perkins on the first team for the 800m and second team for 1600m and 3200m, and the boys’ 4x800m relay team on the second team.

Girls’ results

The Lady Seahawks took fifth and 10th, respectively, in the 800m run with Grace Campbell and Kate Wickline putting up times of 2:49.5 and 2:55.73. Much like in the May 14 Lisbon meet, Campbell and Wickline finished the 1600m run within 0.01 seconds of each other. The two finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in 6:14.33 and 6:14.34 which puts them at 9th and 10th on the Top Ten list. Zada Smith took 15th in the 100m hurdles in 21.48 seconds and Ava Schlosser took fifth in the 1600m race walk in 9:40.67 putting her at 3rd on the Top Ten list.

Riley Sullivan and Emma Hodgdon took eighth and ninth, respectively, in discus with 71’2” and 69’ 11”. Hodgdon also took 10th in javelin with 58’2”.

Campbell, Schlosser, Sullivan and Smith took seventh in the 4x400m relay in 5:14.52.
