Seahawks soar ahead of Wolverines

The Lady Seahawks traveled across the Wiscasset Bridge to pay a visit to their neighboring rivals, where they walloped the Wolverines in a 55-28 blowout win January 7.
Boothbay seized control in the first quarter and racked up a quick 11-0 run. For the remainder of the game, the Lady Seahawks never took their foot off the pedal, as their guards displayed great defensive pressure, and their bigger players pummeled the post down low.
So far this season the Lady Seahawks (7-2) have shown great confidence and poise, inspired by tri-captains Alex Clarke, Allison Crocker and Sarah Caron, knowing all too well that one of them can go off for double digits on any given night.
In this matchup, senior sharpshooter Caron had the hot hand, netting 21 points, fueled by four 3-pointers.
“What worked tonight was our movement,” Caron said. “We put in a new offense in our shoot-around the other day, and it’s caused us to have more patience and to get the ball inside a lot more than our regular zone offense.”
When asked if there was any talk of rivalry before the game, Caron said it was more of a mental game for Boothbay. “We made sure we put all rivalries aside, and just played our game,” she said.
More than half of the Wolverines' score came from junior forward Briana Goud, who scored 15 points. Wiscasset’s head coach, Patrick Quinn, said Boothbay brought so much pressure to the ball, his main focus was to improve his team’s ball movement.
“Boothbay’s obviously one of the top teams in the conference, so I was hoping for a sustained effort, which I think they gave,” Quinn said. “We’ve had a couple games recently where a lot of bad habits crept in, but I thought the girls played really hard tonight, and lost to a much better team.”
The Lady Seahawks (7-2) will host Telstar (0-7) at 7 p.m., Jan. 11, at Porter Memorial Gymnasium.
Game Over: Boothbay wins 55-28.
Third Quarter: Boothbay still ahead 45-19.
Second Quarter: Boothbay leading 27-11. Senior Captain Sarah Caron, No. 10, has already netted 9 points.
First Quarter: Boothbay jumped out and seized the lead with 13-2.
