Seahawks overtake Ramblers 48-43
Sophomore point guard Peyton Barter fueled a Senior Night comeback through his scoring, defense and assists as the Seahawks went on to defeat the visiting Winthrop Ramblers, 48-43, Monday, Feb. 2.
Barter scored 10 of his team-high 18 points in the fourth quarter as the Seahawks overcame a nine-point deficit, 41-32, with just over three minutes to play. In the final quarter, Boothbay outscored Winthrop, 18-8, to gain the Seahawks' fifth victory (5-13) in the team’s final game of the season. Barter hit two 3-pointers in the quarter and senior Harry Hinckley got six of his 10 points in the fourth quarter.
The Ramblers led by as many as nine points in the quarter, but coach Dan Hallinan had his players step up on defense, especially in the fourth quarter where a full-court press gave Winthrop trouble and the Seahawks came up with several turnovers. Hinckley did a great job against the Ramblers defensively, coming up with a couple of blocked shots and hauling down rebounds in the final eight minutes.
“It’s nice to be on the other end,” said Hallinan of the win after the game.
Adding to the Seahawk scoring were senior Simeon Bates with eight points and Chase Licursi, who left the game with an injury in the third quarter, with seven points.
Rambler sophomore forward Graham Huri led the visitors with 22 points. Junior guard Gabe Beauschene added 12 points for Winthrop, who fell to 3-14 in Class C South with the loss.
