Seahawks to face St. Dom’s Oct. 23

Fri, 10/18/2019 - 1:00pm

The sixth-seeded Boothbay Region High School field hockey team will travel to Auburn on Wednesday, Oct. 23 to face the third-seeded St. Dominic Academy Saints in the quarterfinal round of the Maine Principals Association’s Class C South tournament. The game will start at 3 p.m.

Boothbay finished with a 5-9 record facing teams in the Mountain Valley Conference. St. Dom’s finished with a 10-4 record facing teams in Western Maine Athletic Conference.

The Seahawks played competitively throughout the season, despite losing one of its top players, junior Kylie Brown, to an ankle injury five games into the season. The team’s lack of bench players seemed to hurt during the second half of several games as players had to play the entire contest without a rest.

St. Dom’s, Wells and North Yarmouth Academy will represent the WMAC in the tournament, while top-seeded Winthrop/Monmouth, Oak Hill, Boothbay, Hall-Dale and Lisbon will represent the MVC in the tournament.

Boothbay defeated Hall-Dale twice and Lisbon, and lost only 1-0 to Winthrop/Monmouth before Brown’s injury. Boothbay also defeated Telstar twice. In last season’s tournament, Boothbay was seeded eighth and lost to the eventual state champion, Winthrop/Monmouth, in the quarterfinals.

St. Dom’s lost to the second- and third-ranked teams in Class B South, Freeport and Fryeburg, this season but defeated fourth-seeded Wells and fifth-seeded NYA each twice. In last season’s tournament, St. Dom’s was seeded fifth, defeated Oak Hill in the quarterfinals, and lost to top-seeded Mountain Valley in the semifinals.

St. Dom’s is located at 121 Gracelawn Road in Auburn.
