Pregame: With one tournament win in the books, the Boothbay Region High School Seahawks (18-1) are one game closer to the Western Maine Finals, but first they must face off with the Madison Bulldogs (12-7) at 8:30 p.m, February 21, at the Augusta Civic Center.
Boothbay beat the Bulldogs 55-51 December 22, but the Bulldogs have since proven they are a team not to be taken lightly. Part of Madison's misleading record is due to their star forward Austin Kane missing most of this season with a broken hand. Despite not playing for half the season, Kane led the Bulldogs in scoring this year, averaging 17 points per game.
Bulldogs senior Dylan Price is another talented player Boothbay will need to cover. Price's buzzerbeater won the quarterfinal game against Hall-Dale February 19, and has provided Madison with a competitive edge that can contend with Boothbay's Anthony DiMauro.
DiMauro reached the 1,000 point milestone in the quarterfinals against Wiscasset February 19, and was recently named a semifinalist for “Mr. Basketball,” a statewide award presented by the Maine Association of Basketball Coaches.
With Kane back in the lineup for Madison, Boothbay will need to make use of their quick transition offense, a method that has given Boothbay an advantage over most teams in the Western Conference.
